For Someone Else

The roses took my breath away
Blood red and beautiful
Someone said they were for me
My heart leapt with excitement
As I searched in the stems
For the card
A cruel joke! Someone’s idea of fun
Of course they were not for me
But for someone else.

Our love took my breath away
Red hot and beautiful
Dreams of a happy future
A little house filled with laughter
Nights filled with happy dreams
Life’s cruel joke, my own delusion
Of course it was not for me
But for someone else.
